The Adventure Begins…Bonaire Nov 2012

For me the adventure started kinda shaky to say the least. Last Wednesday, I packed my clothes with plans to drop by SDI Thursday, to grab my dive gear. This was AMAZING AND UNBELIEVABLE for me because as everyone knows I am always on "island time". This usually means I'm normally "pressed for time".  Hahaha

Well as the adventure goes, Thursday night I was reviewing my paperwork and realized that my passport had expired on Oct 21. OH MY GOODNESS!!! What do I do now??? Using my "üniversal ïnformation resource" (Google), I found there were only two options: The first option was unacceptable...i wouldnt be able to go.  The second option required some IMMEDIATE ACTION if it were going to be made to work.  I called the Atlanta Passport Agency and set an 8am appointment in Atlanta Friday morning to renew my passsport. This was horrible because it meant I would have to leave Huntsville at 2am in order to get there by 8am. If I showed up any later than 8:15, my appointment would be cancelled and I would have to miss the trip.  That was not an option so I hit the road...ON TIME!

When I got there, I spoke to several security guys and one happened to be a Marine currentlry serving in a unit I served with back in the Desert Storm days. The overal renewal process went vey smooth and twelve hours later, after much stress, I was picking up my brand new passport.  WOOHOO!!!! I went straight to the hotel in Atlanta and went straight to sleep.

Saturday morning arrived and I jumped up, met my good friends Wayne and Betty and we grabbed the early shuttle to the airport.

The plane left on time and all 18 of us were happy to see the island of Bonaire appear as we broke through the clouds.

After the dive briefing Sunday morning, everyone did buoyancy checks followed by a great boat dive.

Following some "chill time", we met up for a night dive from "Baby Dock".  In our group many of the divers had never been on a night dive so there were many unknowns.  After we briefed the dive and entered the water, I watched as the beams of light penetrated the dark, clear water.  It reminded me of a sci-fi movie. Everyone was amazed to see the huge tarpon hunting in the light from all the flashlights.

After the dive, no one could stop talking about how much fun it was to dive at night.

Finally, a great dinner topped off a great first day of diving. Next dive 8:30 am!

The moral of the story:

VERIFY YOUR PASSPORT EXPIRATION DATE AT LEAST ONE MONTH PRIOR TO THE TRIP!

To be continued...

Havin fun…Sean
