Meet People… Go
Places… Do Things… Fun, Fun, Fun…
This is the promise of
PADI Continuing Education Courses. From the very first time an excited new
student diver picks up the Open Water manual he or she is immersed in this
philosophy. This philosophy can very readily be witnessed in the videos as
well as in classroom sessions. As a matter of fact, I think this is so
important that one of the very first things I jokingly point out to a new
class is “if you are not in this class to have fun, then you might be in the
wrong place”.
The last chapter of the
PADI Open Water Manual deals with several other things the continuing
education courses offer such as additional dive experiences, introduction of
new skills, etc. It all boils down to “Meet People, Go Places, Do Things
and a whole lot of Fun.
One very good way to take
part in this philosophy is to join the great crew of Southeastern Divers on
one or more of our wonderful monthly dive adventures. We purposely scatter
multiple trips throughout the year in order to keep divers diving. Whether
you are diving in a quarry, fresh water spring, river or ocean there is
always something interesting to see or do. Even if the visibility is poor
or non-existent there are always great opportunities to hone our diving
skills. As an example, because good buoyancy control is so important, I
often times practice hovering in mid-water with my eyes closed. This allows
me to “feel” changes in depth without necessarily using visual references.
The Peak
Performance Buoyancy Adventure Dive can start you on the path
to reach the ultimate level of buoyancy control. Once you reach the peak
performance level, it won’t matter if you are diving at night, in dark
water, clear water or even black water, you will always have that “fish”
sense of position.
If you would like to
explore some cool diving adventures, please come join us on one of our trips
to Destin Florida. We have done many of these trips over the last 10
years and everyone always has a great time. Of course, (it goes without
saying) the trip satisfies the basic PADI philosophy above. You will get a
chance to meet plenty of cool people both divers and non-divers who share
the same passion for the aquatic world and diving. Just driving down to
sunny Destin always puts a smile on my face because it is such a friendly
place with a lot of neat stuff to see and do.
Our dive adventure
usually starts out with individuals driving down on Friday, checking in and
exploring Destin for the rest of the evening. At this point we are on
“total island time” so everyone just does whatever they want. Many times,
it is a way for me to get some much needed rest from my previous week’s rat
race in the real world.
Saturday morning is a
leisurely time because our dives don’t start until noon, so just chill out
and make sure you have all of your dive essentials. Before noon, we all
meet at Emerald Coast Scuba which is the home of several of my very good
friends, including “The World’s Greatest PADI Course Director”-smile Anna.
These are some great, friendly folks and they know a lot about diving
Destin. At noon, we will load the boat and head out to the Gulf for a “four
hour tour” which includes 2 dives. There are many great sites with plenty of
aquatic life to explore. I really enjoy trying to see how many fish species
I can identify (Fish
ID Adventure Dive). Because our first dive is typically
below 60ft, a diver can very easily complete the
Deep Adventure Dive.
Briefings for the Adventure Dives are done on the boat deck as we are
traveling to our dive site or between dives. Dinner Saturday night is
always great. We will pick a local restaurant with a wide ranging menu
selection so that there is always something for everyone.
Sunday morning is usually
an early one because we are on the 8 am boat. This allows us to get back by
noon so that everyone can make it home at a descent hour. Of course the
diving makes it worth the early rise. For those interested in diving
wrecks, the Wreck
Adventure Dive is easily accommodated on this trip and as
long as you are riding the boat you may as well knock out the
Boat Adventure Dive
because it covers basic information you will use for the rest of your diving
career, unless you limit yourself to shore diving.
If you are the
adventurous type who is interested in Meeting People, Going Places, Doing
Things and having a whole lot of Fun. Click
HERE or drop by Southeastern
Divers for more information and to sign up for one of our Destin Dive
Weekends. You will not be disappointed. These trips are perfect for
completing your Advanced Open Water certification or Specialty courses.
Come share the PADI Continuing Education promise with us.
I hope to see soon.
