Backmount Diving

This list is meant to give you a head start on getting what you need to do dives in a backmount doubles rig  I’m pretty sure I remembered everything, but when you’re getting your rig together, ask lots of questions!
I know there seems to be lots of “small parts”.  Not to worry!  One of the things we do in the Discover Tech or Tec 45 class is put it all together… together.

Gear for Backmount doubles diving

Backplate, rigged with a single piece of webbing at a crotch strap.

Backmount BCD – DiveRite Classic Wing is a good choice.

Double steel tanks – 100 cubic foot tanks at a minimum, to provide ample breathing gas reserve

Two regulators – Apeks Tek3 regulators, or Apeks XTX50 with DST first stage.  Right regulator should have 7’ hose, left regulator should have standard hose.

Regulator necklace – on left regulator

SPG on standard length hose

Wrist mounted dive computer.

Surface signaling devices, whistle or safety sausage.

Mask & Fins

Appropriate exposure protection

Finger spool – 100’ – 150’

Two cutting devices – small knife and line cutter or shears

Regulators for stage bottles – one for Tec 40 & 45, two for Tec 50.

SPGs for stage bottles with 6” hoses.

Elastic hose retainers – one per stage bottle.

Stage bottle rigging kit, one per stage.

Wrist mounted computers (2) – multi-gas or nitrox is best, but need at least two ways to determine depth and time.

Wrist slate & pencil

Back-up mask

Wet notes or underwater paper & pencil

Lights (3) – canister primary, two backups

Various clips, snaps, zip ties, as needed.

Exposure protection – probably a drysuit
