Who?

You! Anyone can learn to dive using SDI’s modern training program. SDI Instructors have trained people from ages 10 to 82 to become SCUBA divers. The minimum age is 10, and until a junior diver reaches the age of 15 they will be required to dive with an adult certified diver. You do not have to be an Olympic swimmer. A basic swimming competency test is given. Anyone with average swimming skills will pass it easily. If you are in good health you can learn to SCUBA dive.

How?

Your training will take part in three phases.

The first phase is home study.

On your own you will complete the PADI Open Water Diver Course eLearning online training. Upon completion of the online portion of your training you are now ready to schedule the in-water portion of your course.  Call our store to set up your in-water training. You will NOT be able to schedule in-water training until the eLearning portion of your training is completed and you have your completion certificate in hand.

*There is still an option for those who do not want to do their academic training online.  Please call the store for details.  256-536-8404

The second phase is diving in a swimming pool.

Here is where the fun really begins! From the very first day you will really be diving! During your pool dives your instructor will teach you the skills and techniques you will need as an Open Water Diver. You will have already seen the skills demonstrated on the video so mastery of these skills usually happens quickly with the help of your instructor. The PADI Open Water Diver course is designed so that each student progresses at his or her own pace. Learning to dive using the PADI system with SDI is great fun and very rewarding.

The third phase of your training is called Open Water training.

This is when we take you to actual open water dive sites for 4 open water dives. During some of the dives you will rehearse some of the skills you learned in the pool.
